Synopsis from Goodreads: A Joss and Braden Novella

Braden Carmichael never imagined he’d fall as hard and as fast as he did for Jocelyn Butler. He also could not have anticipated how difficult it would be to convince her to give in to love. But now that he has her, he’s never letting go. He’s got it all planned—the passionate proposal, the dream wedding, the sexy Hawaiian honeymoon—even the perfect family they’ll start.

After trying to flee from her painful past, Joss is finally allowing herself to embrace the future. But when things start moving faster than she anticipated, she finds herself panicking over something Braden can’t understand. After everything they’ve been through, Joss is sure that their love can survive even her worst fears. But, this time, she may push Braden too far—and risk losing everything all over again…

Christal’s Review – 2 Skulls – D

I enjoyed Joss and Braden’s story in On Dublin Street, but this novella just didn’t work for me.  Castle Hill tried to pack too much into such a short story.  We get Joss and Braden’s engagement, wedding, honeymoon, and first few months of married life all in less than 100 pages.  Everything moved so swiftly and didn’t feel like it had the needed detail to make the events really resonate.  There were some cute moments in the wedding and the honeymoon though.  I probably would have given this story 3.5 or maybe even 4 skulls if it had stopped there, but what happened afterwards left a bad taste in my mouth.  Be warned, from here on out there are unavoidable spoilers.  If you don’t want to know what happens to Joss and Braden, please don’t click the link below.  Just know that my disappointment with this novel stems from the way Braden acted towards Joss when she found out some very unexpected and emotional news.

Hey people? This is a spoiler--Fair Warning!

Even though I wasn’t very pleased with this story, I did enjoy the next book, Before Jamaica Lane.  Check back later in the week for a much more pleasant review of that novel!

Thank you to Netgalley and NAL (Intermix) for providing an ARC copy of this book!

  • OK…first of all, I’m insanely jealous that you already have ‘Before Jamaica Lane!’ LOL

On Dublin Street is one of my favorite reads of 2013, and I couldn’t wait for more. I liked Until Fountain Bridge, but Down London Road just lost me. I started this one, but I put it down because it just wasn’t grabbing me. I felt like you–the author was trying to pack too much into a novella, and I also felt like some of the favorite lines or scenarios from On Dublin Street were being recycled. I wanted new!

    Excellent review!

    • Thanks Angie! I never read Down London Road; I was just never that interested in Jo. I did like her involvement in Before Jamaica Lane though and her little brother is so cute. Before Jamiaca Lane does add some information to the Castle Hill story, but I still thought Braden was an ass. I hope you get to read the new novel so though; it was super hot!

      • I’m going back and forth on whether or not I’ll be reading ‘Before Jamaica Lane.’ I loved ODS, and UFB was really good, but everything I’ve read since has been disappointing. When her characters show up as secondaries in other books, they’re practically unrecognizable to me.

I finally read ‘Castle Hill.’ I can’t tell you how much I disliked it. Braden was not the same Braden I fell in love with in ODS. 🙁

Thanks for letting me rant! LOL

        • BJL was actually really good, Angie. I liked UFB but I actually though BJL was a little bit better. The two leads are pretty much “new” characters so there wasn’t any disappointment in them acting out of character. It was also a very sweet romance. I still haven’t read Down London Road and I really disliked Castle Hill, but I do recommend Before Jamiaca Lane.
