Genre Book Showdown: Dance of Shadows vs Dancing in the Dark

February 2013 marks the release of two very different YA novels that are both set around the world of ballet. Dance of Shadows by Yelena Black is a paranormal mystery set in a high-pressure, elite dance academy environment while Dancing in the Dark by Robyn Bavati is a contemporary novel set in the ultra-conservative Haredi Jewish community. Both of these novels work the world of ballet and the beauty of dance throughout their plotlines, but I can only recommend one of them to you Badass readers. Read on to see which novel wins this ballet-based showdown!   Dance of Shadows [ Read More of this Review ]

Review: Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor Book #1 – Daughter of Smoke and Bone Genres: Young Adult, Fantasy, Audiobook narrated by Khristine Hvam  D.G.’s Rating – 5 skulls: A This book is the beginning of a journey…a journey through the essence of hope and pain, full of wonderful imagery and a seemingly whimsical combination of words that envelopes you strongly and doesn’t let you go. The story is almost epic in its scope, seemingly simple while slowly transforming into mistakes as old as time: enmity that evolves into a never-ending war. We’ve experienced this story so many times [ Read More of this Review ]

It’s just like high school but with more boredom and entrails.” I must confess, I have not read all the books in this series.
