Sci-Fi Saturday - Outlaw M.C. By James Cox

Outlaw M.C. by James Cox: Earth was considered a desolate planet and is used as a prison.  Humanity lives on Mars in a single but always expanding city.  Technology being what it is keeps humans breathing.  The government is ruled by a man named Max Wesmen.  He’s a twisted fuck and changed our entire structure.  Now it’s illegal to drink alcohol, do any drugs, have kinky sex, and, of course, smoke.  Homosexuality was a death sentence.  Women were to be kept for breeding.  Dark skinned men were used as slaves, like back in the darkest days of history.  The [ Read More of this Review ]

Reconnecting with old Friends, Bibliophile style!

I’m sure that this is a post that most of you have experienced.  It’s a post about those long ended series that you loved so much.  The ones that you think about frequently and find yourself missing.  The books that you still, even 2 or so years later, tell yourself that you just wish there was something more.  They meant so much to you, and when you came to the end you just were not ready to say goodbye to either the characters, or to the world. I was lucky that when that surge of nostalgia came upon me I [ Read More of this Review ]

Graphic Novels: Strong Female Characters

Now is a great time to get into comics and graphic novels!  DC and Marvel both relaunched many of their titles with new #1 issues in the past few years, The New 52 and Marvel Now! respectively, and independently published comics are continuously producing profound and unique stories.  With SDCC right around the corner and Marvel’s announcement last week that a woman would be taking up the mantle of Thor, I thought it would be a perfect time to take a look at some graphic novels that feature strong female characters. These are some of my personal favorites, but I [ Read More of this Review ]

Review and Giveaway: Dirt Nap by AJ Aalto

Our Frightening Fall Reads continues with a short story from the Marnie Baranuik universe. You may remember that I was very excited about this new Urban Fantasy series that features the psychic preternatural expert Marnie Baranuik and her vampire companion Harry. Marnie is one of those characters that just doesn’t have a brain filter – she says it as she sees it. This leads to all sorts of hilarious and often hairy situations. Book Blurb: “Jail probably would have been a better place to spend a Thursday afternoon, but when a preternatural expert is needed, there’s no one else [ Read More of this Review ]
