ARC Review: Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard

ARC Review: Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard Book 1: Something Strange and Deadly Book provided by Edelweiss and HarperTeen Release Date: July 24, 2012 AH’s Review – 5 Skulls – A That was exhilarating! Something Strange and Deadly is a young adult novel with a feisty, unconventional heroine. Something Strange and Deadly was an enjoyable read. Set in Philadelphia during the late 1880’s the book captures that era’s proper Victorian decorum. Gowns, corsets, parasols, gloves, chaperones, and tea are a part of this world. Meanwhile the Dead are on the loose, an imminent threat to the population. The [ Read More of this Review ]

New Release Review: Last Bastion of the Living by Rhiannon Frater

The Last Bastion of the Living: A Futuristic Zombie Novel by Rhiannon Frater 4 Stars/ Grade A *E-book provided by Rhiannon Frater* Regina’s Review I am reluctant to say anything about this book lest I spoil it for future readers.  Ms. Frater has written an amazing story here and the building blocks of the story are so important, I just don’t want to ruin it for anyone.  Each little place slides in place as a new piece of knowledge for the reader — you gotta learn it as you go.  The Last Bastion is a zombie story and a dystopia story [ Read More of this Review ]

Review: Working Stiff by Rachel Caine

Working Stiff by Rachel Caine Book purchased from Borders     AH’s Review – 4 Stars B+ My first impressions of this book were that it was different from most of the urban fantasy books I’ve read. Different, in a good way. Working Stiff is a completely new take on zombies, a far more sinister take than the usual fare. The premise seems straight out of those medical conspiracy thrillers with Big Pharma as the evil bad guys. Paranoid, secretive characters and evil henchmen round out the cast. A large pharmaceutical company inadvertently develops a drug that [ Read More of this Review ]

If you haven’t read Aftertime yet, what are you waiting for?   AH’s Review – 4 stars – B+ When I finished reading Aftertime, I was left with a sense of hope. Cass, Ruthie, and Smoke were a family. Review: Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel

Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel Book received from Netgalley.    AH’s Review Grade: C+ – Dearly, Departed could have been a most awesome book. It has a lot of good things going for it: a great cast of characters and an engaging story. The author has a quirky sense of humor and I did chuckle at some parts. The dialogue was entertaining as well. How could you go wrong with steampunk and zombies? Let’s start with what I liked.  I liked Nora and her best friend Pamela. These two girls were quite independent and brave. I loved that they [ Read More of this Review ]

Review: Aftertime by Sophie Littlefield

4.5 stars Grade: A Goodreads Blurb about Aftertime   A little disclaimer here – I am not a fan of zombie books. I do not actively seek them out. I’m squeamish. I tend to shy away from undead creatures that are afflicted with rotting body parts. (Why is it that their teeth seem to never fall out?) Zombies are not, and never could be, as seductive as vampires. Zombies just don’t have the muscular physique of the average were. Zombies just aren’t attractive – and definitely not sexy. Imagine my surprise when I decided that I liked this book. [ Read More of this Review ]

FEED by Mira Grant (aka Holy Sh!T Zombies!)

Erika’s Review Grade: B First 35%… 2 stars for being repetitive and slow, and could have used more editing to slim it down. I actually was able to put it down several times, read other books, and pick it back up without missing a beat. Second half? 4.5 Stars. Summarizing: Georgie, Shaun and Buffy are news bloggers in the 2040′s. Georgie is a Factual News Blogger, Shaun is an Action Blogger, and Buffy writes fiction and poetry and is also a major techie. They own their own “paper” In 2012 or 2014 I can’t remember, scientists created a virus [ Read More of this Review ]
