Armchair BEA: Topic of Choice - Wrap Up

The Armchair BEA Wrap Up Post   I think that our topic of choice will be the Wrap Up post as well. I can’t believe how quickly this week has passed by.  This was a very hectic week for the 6 of us and with work, real life, and some travel commitments, we were still able to keep up with all the posts. So I’d like to take a moment to thank the awesome ladies that I have the privilege of co-blogging with. Thanks for putting together some fantastic posts. You ladies rock. At the same time I’d like [ Read More of this Review ]

Armchair BEA: Middle Grade & Young Adult Books

AH – OK. looks like I’m starting this one off. I’m a mom with 3 reluctant readers. Boys. Boys who hate to read because it hurts their brains. Yup. Or that’s what they kept telling me when they were younger. I had to go out and find books that they could get excited about. So that, in turn, meant that I had to also read said books. Let’s start with the obvious choices, the books that have been made into movies.  My kids loved The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I think that Kid2 read the series at least 3 [ Read More of this Review ]

Armchair BEA: Beyond the Borders

This was an interesting topic for the ladies at Badass Book Reviews. We interpreted the topic in different ways: AH – OK, I guess I’ll start this off and talk about my love for Twilight. Yup, Twilight, the series that got me back into reading. I know, you are all laughing at me but there was a long stretch of time where I didn’t read much. Can you believe it? When the kids were little, there just wasn’t time to read with work, housework, and kid stuff. Then my neighbor introduced me to Twilight and for some stupid reason, I [ Read More of this Review ]

Armchair BEA: Novellas and Short Stories

Wendy – Growing up I always equated how invested I would be in a book with the page count.  I would only search out books that had at least 500-600 pages.  I was convinced that length was the secret to getting this reader attached.  I’m much wiser now and I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter how many pages are in a book, that it’s more about the skills of the author.  A long book doesn’t guarantee a great book, and a novella written by a great writer can really pack a punch.  Take Wool by Hugh Howey for example; it’s only [ Read More of this Review ]

Armchair BEA: Expanding Blogging Horizons

Expanding Blogging Horizons What do you think about when you think about going beyond blogging or expanding your horizons? Is it a redesign of your blog? Have you branched out into freelance writing or even published a novel of your very own? Or, have you moved into a different venue like podcasts or vlogging? This is the day to tell us about how you have expanded on blogging in your own unique way. –  AH - Hmm…this could make a very interesting discussion. How many of you feel comfortable playing with all of the technology out there in Blogland? Do you [ Read More of this Review ]

Armchair BEA: Author Interaction

Regina:  My favorite part of blogging is chatting with authors.  At first I just wanted to chat and meet with authors that I loved.  But now that I have been blogging for a few years, and it has been interesting to meet authors that I only have learned about from the blog – and am now a fan.  So my two favorite author interviews that I have done are Cara McKenna and Patricia Briggs are my faves.  We interviewed Patty multiple times; her most recent interview has the links to the earlier interviews.  I loved the interviews with Patricia Briggs [ Read More of this Review ]

Armchair BEA: More Than Just Words ~ The Audiobook Edition

If you have read my reviews, you know that I’m mad about audiobooks. In the last few years, at least half the books I’ve “read” have been in audiobook format and the proportion keeps increasing. There’s an element of convinience about my preference – I can listen when I’m in the train or walking the streets, I can listen while I’m at the gym and I listen at night, when my eyes are too tired to read. But overall the main reason I listen instead of reading is because the quality and quantity of audiobook productions has just skyrocketted in [ Read More of this Review ]

Armchair BEA: Literature

What is Literature? Reading is such a personal experience but yet it seems to define how people view us.  That is such a weird pull.  A book effects an individual on such an intimate level, yet by seeing a person read a certain book some people believe they know what that book means about a certain person.  I know many people who make judgments of people based on what an individual reads or chooses not to read.  We all know those people, right? Or maybe make those judgments ourselves? And how many times have you seen (I know I have) [ Read More of this Review ]

Armchair BEA: Introduction Post

Welcome! Hello and welcome to Badass Book Reviews. Badass Book Reviews started off as a small little blog in 2011. Since then, we’ve grown to a group of six reading-obsessed women. We love to read a variety of books such as Young Adult, Romance, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, Historical Romance, and Contemporary Romance. I’m probably missing a few genres, but you get the picture. We love to read. Most of us read on our ereaders – Kindles and a lonely little Kobo, and we do love our audio books as well. Between the six of us, [ Read More of this Review ]

Armchair BEA - Blogger Development

Armchair BEA – Blogger Development Hi, AH here… I love this topic because as bloggers we can all learn from each other. I think that I am lucky because I work with a wonderful team of bloggers. Each of us brings in our strengths to the blog. We have a few bloggers that are HTML wizards, others that are great with graphics, some that have fantastic interview skills, and then there’s me – Badass Cheerleader! I think that what works for us is that we work as a team. We are very accommodating and we are able to move things [ Read More of this Review ]

Armchair BEA - What's in a Genre?

DG: Before I joined Goodreads, I read pretty much only two genres: romance and mysteries. Overall, I stay those are still my favorite genres but over the years, my genres have expanded so much that I consider myself an omni-reader. I’m pretty much open to every genre. Sadly, I don’t have time to read in depth about every genre that strikes my fancy so this is where belonging to a team of bloggers helps. Although we share a love of Urban Fantasy (that’s probably the genre we all have in common), the other ladies helps to find those gems that [ Read More of this Review ]

Hi. I’m AH and I am part of the blogging team here at Badass Book Reviews along with Michelle the Bookshelf Stalker, Regina, D.G., and Christal. Here’s our answers to the Armchair BEA – Introduce Yourself Q&A: Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging? AH: I’m a mother of 3 very hungry teenage boys. I started reading because I was on the hunt for books that would appeal to boys, then I joined Goodreads. Now I’m reading anywhere from 150-180 books a year and [ Read More of this Review ]

Badass Hidden Gems - Canada eh? (and giveaway too!)

Welcome to Badass Book Reviews’ Hidden Gems – The Canada eh? edition. Yup, 1/4 of Badass Book Reviews is Canadian. Hmm…Does that make us an international blog? I’m very excited to be a part of this blog hop and thought what better way than to highlight a few of my favorite and newly discovered Canadian authors. I went and Googled Canadian authors and came up with an Oprah’s Book Club list. Those aren’t the kind of authors we review on Badass Book Reviews. Not a werewolf, vampire, or a dragon on that list. No aliens or androids, either. So….I did [ Read More of this Review ]
