Book Summary:

Despite having been besotted with Dante Garcea since she was a child, wolf shifter Jaime Farrow figures that it’s time to move past the crush. If he wanted her, he wouldn’t have ignored her flirtatious behavior, right? Hiding her intense attraction to him isn’t easy – especially now that they’re part of the same pack again – but with bigger issues to worry about and with the submissive wolf act to maintain, Jaime is resolute on moving forward. Now if only the workaholic control-freak would let her…

As the pack Beta, Dante doesn’t have the space or time in his life for a relationship. As such, he ignores his intense hunger for the willful – and sometimes crazy – Jaime. Yet when her flirtations abruptly end, Dante finds that he doesn’t like losing her attention. He finds something else too – Jaime’s hiding something. Determined to uncover her secret, he sets out to break through her defenses, even though being around her intensifies his cravings for her. What he finds is a problem that Jaime is convinced not even a powerful Beta can solve.

BadAssBook Reviews welcomes paranormal author Suzanne Wright today for an interview and reviewing her new book Wicked Cravings!  We are excited to be part of a blog tour promoting her new book in her Phoenix Pack Series.  I loved Feral Sins (the first in the Phoenix Pack series), it was hot, sexy and funny.  Wicked Cravings is being released on April 16th and it doesn’t disappoint!  So first Suzanne takes time out of her writing schedule to answer our questions and then I review Wicked Cravings …….

Regina:  One of the things I really enjoy about the Phoenix Pack series is that while romance and a happily ever after for a specific couple is the focus of each book, the fantasy element of the world is highly developed and detailed — and these books are freaking funny.  What are your influences for this series?
Suzanne:  I get inspiration from literally everything around me. The smallest thing can make an idea pop into my head, and then that idea just sprouts and grows and grows. The original inspiration that started off this series was actually a dream. I dreamed that I woke up and had no idea where I was or who I was with and they wouldn’t let me go until I did something for them, but I didn’t know what it was they wanted me to do. I just woke up thinking how horrible would it be to not know where you are, to be trapped like that and not able to contact the people you love. That gave me the idea for Taryn waking up totally clueless, and then it just went from there…unbelievably turning into a shifter series.
Regina: The dream sounds frightening, but it is interesting that it was the start of something so fun.  And I do like the idea that it evolved into something that surprised you.  🙂  What projects are you currently working on?
Suzanne: I’m working on the third of the Phoenix Pack series, Tremors of Need, which is Nick and Shaya’s story. Having lots of fun with that. I can’t say much about it without spoiling Wicked Cravings. Soon I’ll be moving on to the third in the Deep In Your Veins series.
Regina:  I really need to give your vampire series a try.  It is on my too read list – glad to hear there will be more books in both series! Where do you see the Phoenix Pack series going?  How many more books do you anticipate writing?
Suzanne: I intend to give all the enforcers their own story, so at the very least there will be eight books in all. I can’t guarantee it will end there though. My brain is too unpredictable.
Regina:  Oh!  That is such good news.   A lot of goodness to look forward to.  🙂 Okay — the love scenes, are these easy for you to write?  I know some authors say they struggle with them but others have fun writing them, what about you?
Suzanne:  They’re lots of fun for me. Every scene is, no matter what kind of scene it is, because I just love writing.
Regina:  I am guessing that many fans of yours many be interested in writing habits, can you give us an idea of any writing rituals and habits that you have?
Suzanne: I don’t have any at all. As a mum to an angel and a demon – seriously, my daughter is like Caligula expecting to be constantly entertainment and prepared to make a big fuss if she isn’t, but I love her – so my life is simply too hectic to schedule time in for anything. I write whenever I have the chance, and I write something every single day. I feel weird if I don’t. Restless and irritated. I know that probably sounds odd but I’ve never claimed to be normal.
Regina:  I completely understand trying to work with kids around — it is nearly impossible — and infuriating but occasionally inspiring!  What books do you enjoy to read?
Suzanne:  If the plot sounds good, I’ll read it, whatever it is. I especially love fantasy books though, and I’m a big fan of Stephen King and wish I had an imagination like his.
Regina:  Stephen King is amazing, he is one of those unique writers that can cross over into so many genres.
I know that writing is the type of career that requires a lot of time and focus but … when you have free time, what do you enjoy to do a Friday night?
Suzanne: I get together with my sisters – it doesn’t matter what we do, we have a huge laugh as we’re all really close. If we’re not out somewhere, we’re watching horror films while snacking furiously on popcorn, chocolate, and Skittles. Good times.
Regina:  That does sound like good times — in a way like the Phoenix Pack getting together.  🙂 Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions.  I know you are busy and I really appreciate the time you took out of your busy schedule!  And now for the book ….

And now for the book ….

Regina’s Review:

Wicked Cravings is the second in the paranormal “romantica” series the Phoenix Pack.  It is a convergence of erotica and romance — explicit sex and a happily ever after resolution.  Shifter books tend to be my favorite in the paranormal romance genre and I had a lot of fun with the first book in this series Feral Sins.  So I began reading Wicked Cravings with a lot of excitement. I was not disappointed.  There are few things that are not surprising about this book — the main characters will hook up, there will be explicit sex and there is going to be a happily ever after.  Readers of romantica and paranormal romance can just expect those basics.  But Wicked Cravings delivers more.  Suzanne Wright delivers humor that is laugh out loud funny and a decent werewolf storyline.

There are similarities between Feral Sins and Wicked Cravings. Both involve extremely dominant shifters – both heroes and heroines (here Dante and Jaime). Both involve female shifters that have issues with shifting. And both involve two characters who are fighting the desire to be together tooth, nail — and with laugh out loud verbal exchanges. Despite those similarities, Wicked Cravings is its own unique story.

There is a who-dun-it, but I was wrong in guessing the bad guy — which I love! And the suspense story line added a nice twist but what really made this book is how the characters develop and change. For Dante and Jaime to be able to come together as a couple they both had to make adjustments in their lives and compromises. Wright shows these happening slowly over time and she shows the struggles each of them has with either accepting that their partner has changed or making the changes themselves.

Taryn and Trey are in a good portion of this story and not a high wave how are you doing either. They play decent roles in this story and it was nice getting to see how their relationship is progressing.

Bottom line — this book is fun and hard to put down. Readers who like paranormal romance with explicit scenes will likely enjoy this book. If readers are bothered by explicit dominant type scenes, then this book is definitely not for them.
