Lethal Rider by Larissa Ione

Release Date: June 1, 2012

Book received from NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing

Synopsis from Goodreads: They’re here. They ride. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Born of a match between good and evil, four siblings stand between hell’s minions and everything they want to destroy. They are the Lords of Deliverance, and they have the power to ward off Doomsday…or let it ride…

LETHAL RIDER

Thanatos, the most deadly Horseman of the Apocalypse, has endured thousands of years of celibacy to prevent the end of days. But just one night with the wickedly sexy Aegis Guardian, Regan Cooper, shatters centuries of resolve. Yet their passion comes with a price. And Thanatos must face a truth more terrifying than an apocalypse-he’s about to become a father.

Demon-slayer Regan Cooper never imagined herself the maternal type, but with the fate of the world hanging in the balance she had no choice but to seduce Thanatos and bear his child. Now, as the final battle draws closer and his rage at being betrayed is overshadowed by an undeniable passion for the mother of his child, Thanatos has a life-shattering realization: To save the world, he must sacrifice the only thing he’s ever wanted-a family.

AH and Michelle’s Thoughts on Lethal Rider – 4 Skulls from AH, 5 Skulls from Michelle – A

Michelle and I decided to do something different for Lethal Rider. Instead of a review, we put together some of our impressions of the book in a bit of a conversation. We’ve each reviewed the book on Goodreads, so you can see AH’s review and Michelle’s review by clicking on the links. So here goes:

AH - Thanatos as an alpha male caveman – whoa – can he stomp around and say mine, or what? I liked that he was mad and set up for revenge for those months in a coma and that there was no instalove between him and Regan.

Michelle’s thoughts- Thanatos cracked me up. He was so sarcastic & so pissed at not only Regan, but also his brother and sister for putting him in the coma. Once he got free, you knew there was going to be trouble!

AH – But the stomping around and the anger were so typical Thanatos. I can’t imagine him doing anything but being angry. And when you look at the big picture – what was he mad about? Losing his virginity? Losing 8-1/2 months of his life? Or did he really miss Regan?

Michelle- I think it was the lack of control. He didn’t like his free will taken away from him. I can’t blame him. He was awake for those months. He was stuck watching TV and being read to. It sounds very boring.

AH Regan – Didn’t much care for her in the previous book but she redeemed herself in this book. I liked that her character was flawed and that she suffered from anxiety and OCD. It made her much more realistic.

Michelle’s thoughts- Ione nailed the OCD. I’m speaking from personal experience. She absolutely nailed it.

AH – I loved when she rearranged Thanatos’ room. I was waiting for the sh*t to hit the fan!

AH - Reseph/Pestilence’s evil rampages are getting old – just how much mayhem can you create in the world?

Michelle’s thoughts- It’s funny because he’s so evil and twisted that at some point, you kind of think- enough already. I agree with you. We kind of got the point at the 5th mass destruction he caused.

AH – Wasn’t Australia enough for him?

AH – The roles of Harvester and Reaver – Harvester and Reaver have always been at odds with each other but in this book, I was surprised by Harvester. She really did the unexpected. Poor Reaver! I hope that Reaver will get his own book soon. That sure would be an amazing story.

AH – The world is intense, well developed, based on mythology and lore of the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Michelle’s thoughts- I like Ione’s version of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse, especially when it results in super-hot hunky men!

AH - I liked the cameo appearances from the Demonica crew – Eidolon, Wraith, Shade, Con, Kynan and Gem. It provided continuity from the previous series. I just can’t seem to get enough of those sexy seminal demon doctors.

Michelle’s thoughts- Absolutely. Every cameo appearance I kept thinking “oh I missed him/her”. Ione makes you really feel for the character and not just the story. I think that is why you can, as a reader, carry the characters from one book to another and the characters can make the transition from main character to minor character so easily.

AH- What about the Aegis? What did you think of them? Personally, they pissed me off.

AH -The sex was smoking hot.

Michelle’s thoughts- LOL. I’m having flashbacks as I type!

AH – What about sex 1 week after a difficult delivery? Did you roll your eyes at that one?

Michelle’s thoughts- Bad me. I didn’t even think about it!

AH’s response – Of course you didn’t think about it, that scene was smoking….

Michelle- LOL. It was VERY smoking.

“Holy hell, she made him nuts, made him angry and horny, spun him so hard he didn’t know up from down.”

AH

AHHi all! Bonjour! I’m AH and I am obsessed with reading. I read all kinds of books, but my favorites are paranormal romance and urban fantasy. What is it about those vampires and shape-shifters? Lately, I seem to be reading a lot of dystopian books as well. Are zombies the new vampire? I hope not. I have 3 boys – all reluctant readers so I tend to read a lot of young adult books aimed at boys. I want them to catch the reading bug too! I’m looking forward to sharing my thoughts about books with you. Hope we can discover some great reads together.
