Angie’s Review – DNF – No Rating
I can’t finish this one. I tried, I really did, but I can’t do it. I almost DNF’d at 25%, then remembered how much I love some other Sarah Dessen books and decided I had to give it another go. It picked up for half a second, and I made it 50%. But then it stalled again. I just can’t push myself to finish. There was absolutely nothing going on here. Haven is tall. Her parents are divorced. Her dad just got remarried. Her sister is getting married in a few weeks. That’s the bare bones of this story, and I feel like that’s all there is to this – bare bones. There’s no meat here, nothing developing, and I just can’t do it.
If you’re new to Sarah Dessen and want to give her a go, I’d urge you not to start with this one. This does not showcase what a wonderful writer she can be. The Truth About Forever does that, though, and that would be a great first read from her. Sarah Dessen does have some wonderful books. This just isn’t one of them. I was not a fan of this narrator, either, so that coupled with the bland story line was a terrible mix.
Having said all that, I can’t rate this book, so I will leave it as simply ‘DNF.’ One of the criteria I use to rate is how the plot was wrapped up, and I can’t do that here.
This is my tentative reading order for my year of reading Sarah Dessen. If there’s a book you think should be added to the list or one that is so spectacular it should be moved up, feel free to let me know in the comments below!
